At Invest Thematic we are passionate about thematic investing. There are fascinating themes and trends that are shaping our world and many of the companies involved in these themes will thrive and grow in the long term. Investing into these themes can be rewarding as the themes play out in the years ahead. It is our mission to help everyday investors tap into these opportunities.
So what is thematic investing? Simply, thematic investing is identifying the themes and megatrends that are driving the world of today and tomorrow, and then investing in the companies that are exposed to and will benefit from them. These trends can be macroeconomic, technological, geopolitical or societal.
We see four key themes: Technology, Environment, Healthcare and Society. However, the really interesting stuff is in the sub-themes, the niches and nuances that can be found within the broader themes. Examples could be Clean Energy, Genomic Innovation, Ageing Population or Deglobalization.
We always try to give examples of companies within our insights however we advocate the use of passive ETFs to get as broad exposure as possible to the themes. For example, let’s say you were excited by the Smart Cities theme, rather than just investing in Palo Alto Networks you would buy a Smart Cities ETF, so you capture the whole opportunity and avoid stock specific risk. There are many benefits to investing via passive ETFs, particularly for individual retail investors, and we dig into these in a number of our posts.
Our posts are intentionally short, to provide just enough to trigger ideas and inspiration, but please also do your own research. Our insights are for what we like to call ‘proper investors’, those with a long-term outlook with an investment horizon in years. Buy and hold.
Lastly and importantly, our posts are not financial advice and should not be taken as such. Readers should use posts for informational purposes only and forming your own conclusions is crucial before investing.
